Chapter 6 - Testing ControlNet Trunk Cables
If the resistance reading indicates:
there is no short , continue with Step 3.
l
that a short exists , use your wire cutters to cut off the connector, install a new connector, and
l
begin testing again.
2. Connect a temporary short between the pin and connector body at one end of the cable.
3. At the other end of the cable, use an ohmmeter or continuity tester to test for electrical continuity.
If the resistance reading indicates:
there is no short , replace the trunk-cable section.

that a short exists , proceed with connector installation on that section of trunk cable.

4. If the cable passes continuity testing, it should then be further tested (using a TDR or return-loss
meter) for 75 ohm impedance at 10Mhz.
CAUTION
Replace the trunk-cable section if problems persist with the cable after completing
these tests.
