The slide is transported in the transport packaging from Afag Automation AG. If the packaging from Afag Automation AG is not used, the electric slide must be packed so that it is protected against impact and dust. The electric slides must be stored dry in the transport packaging.
2.3 Description of the electric slide The ES Electric Slides are used in automation systems and are intended exclusively for the movement of workpieces. The ES Electric Slides are intended exclusively for operation with original LinMot compo- nents (controllers, cables, etc.). Use for any other purpose does not constitute an intend- ed use.
Description of the electric slide ES Electric Slides are available in the following versions: Type Stroke Order number ES8-15 15 mm 50433800 ES8-40 40 mm 50433801 ES12-20 20 mm 50433802 ES12-60 60 mm 50433803 ES12-100 100 mm 50433804 Installation and commissioning only by qualified personnel in accordance with the instal- lation manual.
2.6 Protection against dangerous movements Dangerous movements can occur if drives are actuated incorrectly. The drive compo- nents are monitored so that a malfunction can be effectively ruled out. For reasons of personal safety, the risk of injury and the risk of material damage, however, this must not be relied on completely.

CAUTION The ES Electric Slide is a partially completed machine. For safe operation, the ES Electric Slide must be integrated into the safety concept of the plant in which it is installed. Measures must be taken to ensure that the operating personnel cannot enter the working area of the ES Electric Slides during operation.
2.8 Mounting Instructions The ES8 and ES12 Electric Slides can be installed in a horizontal position as no load compensation for vertical installation is intended. A vertical installation position may be possible upon consultation. The mounting holes (M3 for ES8) and (M4 for ES12) are po- sitioned on the base element.

We generally recommend that ES8 and ES12 Electric Slides are installed in a horizontal position. A vertical installation should only by considered upon consultation with AFAG Automation AG and when using a weight com- pensation via a spring (not included as standard).
2.12 Installation of the ES Electric Slides in a System CAUTION The ES Electric Slides may only be installed in a system when the control system is switched off and secured. The ES Electric Slides may only be installed by qualified technical personnel. Connect and disconnect cables only when the control system is switched off! NOTE...
2.13 Electric Slide ES8 The ES Electric Slides are electric modules with a contact-free, wear-free direct drive (linear motor). Cable incl. motor plug Mounting of the module (slide): M2.5 with centring Ø 4 H7 M3 with centring Ø 5 H7 Hole pitch 16 x 16 mm and 20 x 20 mm Bores can be screwed through Mounting of the periphery:...
2.16 Programming the ES Electric Slides CAUTION Commissioning of ES Electric Slides should be done in setup or step mode. Incorrect programming can trigger an uncontrolled movement of the ES Electric Slides. Quick or unintended movements of the module can lead to injuries and property damage.

No modifications may be made to the ES Electric Slides that are not described in this in- stallation manual or have been approved in writing by Afag Automation AG. Afag Auto- mation AG will assume no liability for any unauthorised modifications or for improper erection, installation, operation, maintenance or repair.
24 months following commissioning, but a maximum of 27 months following delivery. Wear parts (e.g. shock absorbers) are excluded from the warranty.* The guarantee covers the use or repair of defective Afag parts. No further claims will be accepted. The warranty will be voided in event of the following: ...
3.12 Safety fence at the installation site NOTE When installing the ES Electric Slide in an assembly system, the plant must be secured with a safety fence or a safety device with locked door safety circuit. 3.13 Commissioning, operation, training CAUTION Settings and retrofits may only be performed by skilled person- nel familiar with the plant.
3.14 Preparations prior to commissioning The ES Electric Slide is designed for operation with LinMot servo controllers. Operation of the servo controllers is described in the operating instructions of the respec- tive servo controllers. The ES8 and ES12 Electric Slides are connected to the servo controller with the M16 motor cable and an adapter cable.
3.15 Commissioning WARNING Setup or step mode should be used for commissioning Electric Slides. Incorrect programming can trigger an uncontrolled movement of the Electric Slide. Quick or unintended move- ments can cause injuries and even death as well as property damage.
WARNING The plant installer is responsible for ensuring that, when an ax- is system is set up (when the safety door is open), there are no operating errors and that the axis can therefore not start uncon- trolled. 3.16 Setup, Retrofitting WARNING The ES Electric Slides are set in motion by the electric control system.
3.17 Normal operation WARNING The ES Electric Slides are set in motion by the electric control system. If the ES Electric Slides cannot move freely, there is a risk of injury and crushing in conjunction with attachments. If attachments on the ES Electric Slide can pose a hazard in conjunction with the moving slides, a correspondingly safe op- eration must be ensured.
3.18 Setting speeds at the electric axes The speeds of the electric axes are generally set by the higher-ranking controller. Example programs are available for a large number of common controllers. This allows the target speed, acceleration and target position to be set. CAUTION An excessively high speed or acceleration can cause damage to the device of the periphery.
The service and maintenance intervals must be observed. The intervals are based on a normal environment. The approval of Afag Automation AG must be obtained in advance if the devices are to be operated in an environment with abrasive dusts or with corrosive or aggressive vapours, gases or liquids.
4.3 Repairs Repairs other than those described below may only be carried out by Afag Automation If you carry out the repair yourself, approval must be obtained in advance from Afag Au- tomation AG. CAUTION Repairs may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
Disposal NOTE ES Electric Slides no longer in use should not be disposed of as a complete unit, but should be dismantled into its individual parts and recycled according to the type of materials. Dispose of non- recyclable materials appropriately. ES8-ES12-BA vers.
