SUSPENSION
The suspens io n sho uld be adjusted for t he ope ra-
t ionai needs and rid ing preference of t he ope rator.
Th e sp rings should not be adj usted so st iffly. that
th e suspe nsion w i ll not work prop erl y under nor-
mal ope rating cond it ions.
The f ron t springs i nfl uence th e way th e
s now mobile perform s in snow and t he effo rt re-
qu ire d to stee r the snowmobi le. Optimum sett ing

for th e f ront spr ings is w hen th e spr ing t ensi o n is
suff ic ient ly st iff to prevent th e suspens ion from
co llaps ing in deep snow but not so st iff th at stee r-
ing becomes in effecti ve.
The rear sp rings sho uld be adj usted fort he we ig ht
and rid ing preference of t he ope rator. The op-
t i mum sett ing on th e rear sp rings preve nts t he
s us pens io n f rom "bottomi ng out" on all but th e
most severe bumps.
A good test of properly adj usted suspens ion is t he
operator sho uld ju st be ab le to "bottom" the
suspens io n when
jumping up and down on t he
rearmost part of th e run nin g board .
Adjusting Front Spr ing Tens ion
To adj ust front spr ing te ns io n, t ig hte n or loosen
t he adj ust ing nut on t he eyebo lt connected to t he
fro nt spr ing (Fig . 29) unt il des ired te ns ion is at -
ta ined. Perform t hi s procedure on both sides of
t he sno wmobi le to ma intain equa l adjustme nt on
both front spr ings.
