Section 2: Troubleshooting DTCs
DTC P0122/P0123 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
Circuit Description
The TPS is a potentiometer connected to the
throttle shaft on the throttle body. The ECM
calculates throttle position by monitoring volt-
age on the signal circuit. As the throttle angle
changes, the TPS signal also changes. At a
closed throttle position, the voltage output of
the TPS is low, but as the throttle opens, the
voltage output increases.

Check for the following conditions:
1. Poor ECM connection. Inspect wire har-
ness connectors for backed out terminals,
improper mating, broken locks, improperly
formed or damaged terminals, and poor
terminal to wire connection.
2. Damaged wire harness and/or connec-
tors. If harness appears to be OK, shake or
wiggle wire harness and/or connector with
DVOM or ETA connected. Radical voltage
changes or a change in the TPS display
can indicate the location of the fault condi-
tion.
Always clear DTCs after performing repairs.
