Pairing
3
Two Bluetooth devices must de-
tect each other before they can
24
create a connection with each
other. This process of mutual
detection is called "pairing". A
device is stored once it has been
detected, meaning that pairing
only has to be carried out for the
initial contact.

The BMW Motorrad commu-
nication system can be connec-
ted with a maximum of three
Bluetooth devices, with each
device belonging to one of the
following three different categor-
ies:
A second BMW Motorrad com-
munication system
An A2DP-compatible music
device
A telephone or with a naviga-
tion device
If a telephone and a navigation
device are to be used, the tele-
phone must be integrated in the
connection via the navigation
device (
20).
A Bluetooth device which has
already been detected is re-
placed with a second device of
the same category due to pairing.
If the previous device is used
again, pairing must be repeated.
During pairing, a Bluetooth
device searches for other
Bluetooth-capable devices
within its reception area. The
conditions that have to be
satisfied before a second device
can be detected are as follows:
The Bluetooth function of the
device must be activated
The device must be "visible" to
others
Please obtain information on the
steps required for this in the op-
erating instructions of the relev-
ant devices.
NOTICE
Despite the standardisation of
Bluetooth and the interoperability
this has created between many
devices, there can be no guar-
antee that all available Bluetooth
devices will function correctly.
