    Type 6 Safety instructions Remarks concerning the operating manual The customer must make sure that the operating manual has been read or conversant with the content by everyone working with the gear pumps. This operating manual is to help you to take required actions for accident prevention.

    Type 6 Intended use The gear pump may only be used with the specifications of the operating manual. The maximum values in the specification are essentially important. The gear pumps must not be used beyond the conditions of the specification. To operate above the conditions is not allowed, because it could be dangerous.

    Type 6 General safety instructions These safety instructions are not exhaustive. If you have questions, or problems, please contact the manufacturer. At the time of delivery the gear pump correspond to the level of technology and are regarded as safe to operate. Owing to the functioning of the gear pump, uncontrolled operation can lead to suction and delivery pressures that damage the pump or installation and endanger the personnel.

    Type 6 Operation of new pumps Pumps are supplied in oiled condition in order to protect them against corrosion. To avoid dry run of the rotating parts during the start--up to the point where the self--lubricating polymer provides the necessary lubrication, driving arbor, stud and gears should be oiled by a few dropsof high temperature resistant silicon oil (f.i.

    Type 6 Alignment of the driving shaft and motor unit A major influence on the leakage at the pump head and also on the life time of the gear pumps is the accurate alignment of the gear motor unit. Every gear motor unit must be perfectly aligned with a suitable alignment device prior to the mounting of the gear pumps.

    Type 6 Mounting of gear pumps Before the gear pumps are installed, all lines should be rinsed by flushing with Polymer or a similar medium. For flushing the lines use a flushing--plate instead of the pumps. Cylindrical screws used for mounting of the gear pumps must be of the strength class 10.9 or 12.9.

    Type 6 Exchange of gear pumps during operation Shut down the gear motors of the pumps to be changed, freeze the polymer in the beam. Withdraw the driving shaft from the pump. Remove the insulation. Unscrew the bolts holding the pump and remove the pump from the beam.

    Type 6 Cleaning of the gear pumps For the metering accuracy and life--time of gear--pumps a skillful cleaning after operation is of great importance. In order to clean the single parts of pumps from melt, they are to be heated in an electric oven.

    Type 6 Fitting packings Clean the stuffing box thoroughly before inserting the packing rings. Care should be taken to see that the working surfaces are perfectly smooth (no scores). An surface defects should in priniple not be greater, if this is possible, than R 0,50µm.
