Self Test

This mode is used to verify the test points within the Model 128/PC. Basically it checks for
opens and shorts on the scanner transmit and receive lines. When an error is located, the error
type (Open or Short) and the faulty points are displayed. No test harness may be connected to
the unit during Self Test; connections between test points caused by the cable assembly will
result in failing Self Test. Performing a Self Test while the adapter cards are connected will
result in the cards also being tested for shorts. If shorts are displayed, however, remove the cards
and rerun the Self Test to isolate the problem to either the cards, or the tester. A complete Self
Test procedure is provided below. To select and use Self Test, proceed as follows:
1.
Press RESET and remove the cable assembly, if connected.
2.
Press Up or Down arrow to step through the menu until Self Test is displayed.
3.
Press MENU RUN to initiate Self Test. During the start of Self Test the display will
show the part number of the PROM (software) of the Model 128/PC as follows:
Where 340XXXX is the current version of software in the Model 128/PC.
4.
After the test is complete, with no errors displayed, Passed Self Test will display.
5.
If an error is located, testing stops and the error is displayed. To continue past the error,
press MENU RUN again.
6.
If the adapter cards are installed and the Self Test failed, remove the adapter cards and
rerun Self Test.
7.
If the tester fails without the adapter cards installed, verify that the ZIF connectors are
free of debris.
8.
Clean the ZIF connectors with isopropyl alcohol and a brush
9.
After cleaning, rerun Self Test.
10. If the Model 128/PC fails Self Test with no adapter cards, and the ZIF connectors have
