PREFACE This Operator’s Manual is meant for personnel who operate the machine and are responsible for its daily maintenance. Kindly read this entire manual prior to starting work. Instructions relating to your safety and/or that of others are marked in the margin by a warning triangle containing an exclamation mark.
- Use flashing lights or other safety signs, when required. - Do not stand on the machine. - Use genuine LELY parts only. - Remove the pressure from hydraulic systems before starting work on them and/or before coupling/uncoupling hydraulic hoses.
EXPLANATION OF SAFETY DECALS ON THE MACHINE - Read the operator’s manual carefully before handling the machine. Observe all instructions and safety rules during operation. - Danger: moving parts. Stay clear of rotating machine parts. - Danger: flying objects. Maintain a sufficient, safe distance from the machine while the tractor engine is running.
The machine is built up of a cutter bar and a conditioner unit. The cutter bar is fitted with mower discs, complete with the LELY SPLENDIMO CLIP quick-change system (fig. 1). The cutter bar is composed of cutting units according to the modular LELY system.
2 LINKAGE TO THE TRACTOR The headstock is fitted with double linkage pins (category II). This allows the mower to be attached to the tractor with more or less offset (fig.3). In most conditions, position is recommended for coupling. Always use position when mowing down a descending slope so that you can operate as far from the side as possible.
3 TRANSPORT The SPLENDIMO MC mower can be transported on the tractor hydraulics. Put the machine into the transport position as follows: - Pull up the locking hook for the hydraulic ram and retract the ram completely. - Check if the ram is secured by the locking hook (fig.5). - Use all lighting and warning signals required by law (or other regulations prescribed by the authorities).
4 MACHINE ADJUSTMENTS Put the machine into the working position as follows: - Pull up the locking hook of the hydraulic ram for a moment and lower the cutterbar carefully by means of the ram. Ensure that the abutment pins on the ram are positioned in the slotted holes of the locking hook (fig.
Swath width The swath width of the SPLENDIMO 240 MC mower can be adjusted from 0.7 up to 2.4 m. - Use the adjusting device (fig. 10) to obtain the required opening of the swath-board.
® 5 OPERATING THE SPLENDIMO • Ensure that nobody is near the machine the moment the PTO is engaged. • Do not allow anyone to come within a 100 m radius of the machine during operation. • Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab. •...
If the machine hits an obstacle during mowing, it can move backwards thanks to the extension of the breakback device (fig. 13). - After extension of the breakback device, reverse a few meters until the breakback device has locked back into position. The machine is protected against overload by either a slip clutch or a shear bolt clutch.
7 MAINTENANCE • Correct machine servicing is vital for ensuring reliable and safe operation. • Install supports underneath the cutter bar if it is lifted from the ground and you intend to carry out work underneath it. The cutter bar can be accessed more easily for maintenance work by opening the front safety shield.
Intermittent maintenance Intermittent maintenance has to be carried out: • at the start of the mowing season; • before prolonged storage of the machine; • when the machine is used extensively during the season. - Grease all points of the machine listed in § 7.2 “Lubrication”. - Grease the spring-loaded locking pins of the yoke lock of the PTO shaft.

- Check all bolts and nuts for tightness. Pay particular attention to the bolts which secure the skids and wear plates (fig. 21). Tighten loose bolts/nuts to the torques specified below. 13.5 21.5 41.0 71.0 - Check whether all safety decals are on the machine and not damaged (fig.
Replacement of knives The mower knives come in 2 different versions for discs with LH or RH rotation. The front of the cutting edge must point downward, viewed in the direction of rotation of the disc. The mower knives have two cutting edges. When one edge is worn, the knife can be reversed so that the second edge can be used.
Change of oil in gearboxes Change the oil of the gearboxes or drive element of a new mower (or after assembly of a new gearbox) for the first time after approximately 30 working hours, and every 250 working hours thereafter. A: 1.7 l - Place a receiving container underneath the gearbox.
Change of grease in mower elements 39 Nm (3.9 kgm) Replace the grease in the mower elements every 500 working hours or after every 1,000 hectares. Proceed as follows: - Remove the mower disc. If several bearing housings need to be dismounted, ensure they are fitted back on the original mower elements.
Supplement A REPAIRS TO THE CUTTER BAR A.1 Cutter bar assembly/disassembly The numbers between brackets correspond to the numbers in figure A-1. The cutter bar is built up of independent units (1). These mower elements are kept apart by intermediate spacers (2). The units and spacers are held together by a connecting rod (3).

If a unit cannot be slid onto the drive shaft in one go, its disc must be turned by one or several half turns until the unit SPLENDIMO 240 MC can be placed. - Fit the elements with the direction of rotation in the standard configuration (fig.
Supplement A & B A.2 Replacement of the disc on a drive element - Untighten the three bolts from the cover A (fig. A-5) and remove cover A. - Remove the gearbox B from the frame and slide the shaft stub of gearbox B from yoke C.
Supplement C CONDITIONER ADJUSTMENTS The conditioner of the SPLENDIMO 240 MC mower allows the position of the crop inlet plate to be adjusted. A different rotor speed can also be obtained. If the conditioner frequently gets jammed in a long crop, we recommend you move the conditioner to the rear (i.e.
Supplement D OPTIONAL EXTRAS Wear plates To avoid excessive wear and tear of the skids as a result of abrasion, the SPLENDIMO mower can be equipped with wear plates that are fitted underneath the skids. These wear plates can be replaced easily and inexpensively. They are available in thicknesses of 4 or 8 mm.
Supplement E TECHNICAL DETAILS ® 240 MC SPLENDIMO Working width 2.4 m Transport width 1.7 m Transport height 3.3 m Number of discs / knives 6 / 12 as from ± 30 mm, infinitely adjustable by means of Mowing height top link Swath width approx.
