Applying the QoS policy

You can apply a QoS policy to the following destinations:
An interface or PVC—The policy takes effect on the traffic sent or received on the interface or
PVC.
A user profile—The policy takes effect on the traffic sent or received by the online users of the
user profile.
A VLAN—The policy takes effect on the traffic sent or received on all ports in the VLAN. This
destination is supported only on SAP modules operating in bridge mode.
Applying the QoS policy to an interface or PVC
A policy can be applied to multiple interfaces or PVCs, but only one policy can be applied in one
direction (inbound or outbound) of an interface or PVC.
When you apply the QoS policy to an interface or PVC, follow these guidelines:
You can apply QoS policies to all physical interfaces but X.25- or LAPB-enabled interfaces.
The QoS policy applied to the outgoing traffic on an interface or PVC does not regulate local
packets, which are critical protocol packets sent by the local system for operation maintenance.
The most common local packets include link maintenance, routing (IS-IS, BGP, RIP, and OSPF,
for example), LDP, and SSH packets.
On some cards, QoS policies can be applied but cannot take effect due to limited system
resources. In this case, you can adjust related parameters (for example, reducing the number of
queues) according to system prompt and then apply a QoS policy again.
To apply the QoS policy to an interface or PVC:
Step
1.
Enter system view.
2.
Enter interface view or
PVC view.
3.
Apply the policy to the
interface or PVC.
Applying the QoS policy to online users
You can apply a QoS policy to multiple online users. In one direction of each online user, only one
policy can be applied. To modify a QoS policy already applied in a certain direction, remove the QoS
policy application first.
When you apply the QoS policy to online users, follow these guidelines:
You can only edit or remove the configurations in a disabled user profile. Disabling a user profile
logs out the users that are using the user profile.
