C. Shower Sump Box
(Fig_6.4-6)
The shower drains into a sump box located directly
forward of the engine. (see Fig_6.4-6) The sump box
is wired directly to the ship's service batteries through
an "always ON" push button breaker located on the
12V DC distribution panel (see Fig_6.2-5). This box
accumulates water until the integral float switch starts
the integral pump and diverts the water overboard. If
the boat is equipped with a Cabin A/C Unit (optional),
the condensate from the A/C unit will drain into the
sump box. In the unlikely event of water ever
accumulating over the height of the shower drain, the
pump in the sump box will act as a forth bilge pump.
D. Sink Drains
The galley and head sinks drain directly overboard.
It is illegal to discharge gray water overboard on
certain bodies of water.

7.6 Fuel

The fuel system in the Back Cove 30 has been
engineered with attention to safety and ease of
operation. Due to the importance of the system, it is
strongly suggested that qualified technicians perform
any service or modification.
A. Fuel Tank
(Fig_6.5-2)
The Back Cove is fitted with a single 160 gallon (see
Fig_6.5-2), roto-molded polyethylene fuel tank with
baffles. Every tank is tested and certified by the tank
manufacturer to meet marine specifications and then
inspected and pressure tested by Back Cove Yachts
prior to installation. The tank is located directly under
the aft cockpit.
B. Fuel Tank Vent System and Shut-off
Valves
The vent hose is connected to the top of the fuel tank
and is led to a specially designed fitting on the port
side of the hull. The vent allows air to replace the
volume of the fuel that is expended during engine
operation and for the exhaust of air as the tank is
filled. Care must be taken while fueling not to overfill
as fuel will flow through the vent and into the water.
Emergency fuel shut-off valves (see Fig_6.5-5) are
located at the tank under the cockpit hatch. Valves
must be in the open (parallel to hose run) to ensure
proper fuel flow to the engine, generator (optional) or
Espar heater (optional). Close shut-off valves in
event of engine room fire. If fuel is shut-off to its
source while it is running, an air pocket will be
created in the fuel system. The fuel system must then
be primed to ensure proper fuel supply.
Never start engine until you are certain that fuel
fumes are not present in the engine compartment
or elsewhere in the boat.
C. Fuel Filter
A dependable supply of clean diesel fuel is necessary
in order to ensure satisfactory operation of the
engine. Cleanliness and care in all fuel handling
operations
will
aid
contamination.
(Fig_6.5-3)
The primary fuel/water separator for the engine is
mounted on a bracket located on the aft engine room
bulkhead. (see Fig_6.5-3) The fuel/water separator
removes water from the fuel. A clear bowl at the base
of the filter allows visual inspection for the
in
guarding
against
fuel
