In the below figure, a simple configuration is given: One PC
attached to the AST710:

(Sub)netmask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway : none
You can setup a local workgroup around the AST710 as shown in
the figure below.
IP address : 172.16.0.2
(Sub)netmask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway : 172.16.0.4
IP address : 172.16.0.4
(Sub)netmask : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway : none
Note: Notice that the default gateways in the PCs point to the AST710.
