Glossary
active volume A hard disk volume to which you can
read and write data; its icon appears on the desktop.
Add Volume A Volume Manager command that allows
you to create volumes and add them to the Mac Disk;
selected from the Mac Disk menu. See also
volume.

auto-active volume A Mac Disk volume that becomes
active automatically when you start up yoW' system;

window.
Auto-Park
A
Davong feature that parks the
~lac
Disk
heads automatically after 7 seconds of inactivity. See also
park.
back up The process of copying iVlac Disk data onto
diskettes to protect against data loss.
buttoD A control that initiates a function. Examples of
software controls are the OK and
Cancel
buttons on a
dialog box and the
ACTlVE/inactive
status buttons
in
