Appendix F: AIDA LED Mode

AIDA LED Mode
The German car manufacturers have through the Automation Initiative of German Domestic Au-
tomobile Manufacturers (AIDA) defined an AIDA specific LED behavior for PROFINET devices.
It is necessary to implement this behavior, to pass conformance tests for AIDA. Any application
using the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT can be designed to conform to the AIDA
LED behavior standard.
F.1
How to Design for AIDA LED Mode
The default version of the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT has one LED for Network
Status, one LED for Module Status and one LED per port to indicate both link and activity. In the
AIDA LED indication mode, one LED indicates Bus Failure and one LED indicates System Fail-
ure, but link and activity for each port are shown separately on different LEDs.
The front of the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT does not carry enough LEDs to show
both the link and the activity indications that are demanded in the AIDA LED mode, but the sig-
nals are available on the host application connector.
To implement the AIDA LED Mode in an Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT, do the
following:
•
Select LED indication mode by setting attribute #7 in the Application Object (FFh) to 1 (AI-
DA LED mode). This will make the link and the activity signals separately available in the
host application connector.
•
In your hardware design, connect orange LEDs to the appropriate pins of the host applica-
tion connector, to indicate activity for each port.

The Port Activity and Port Link signals are available in the host application
connector in all operating modes except 16 bit parallel. The signals are always
available in the LED status register, see Anybus CompactCom 40 Software Design
Guide for more information.
When Transparent Ethernet is activated, the LED status signals are only available
in the LED status register.
