Making calls with a voice over IP phone can be exactly the same
as with a „normal" analog or ISDN phone. This depends on the network
setup which has been done by your network operator.

Making Calls

In many cases, you just want to call a telephone number. You
can start entering the number with the handset in the cradle („handsfree
dialing") or the traditional way by first picking up the handset and then
start dialing.

Traditonal Dialing

If you choose the traditional way, the ringback is played only if
your registration is ok. This is an indication that everything is alright and
you can expect that the call will work normally. If you do not hear a ring-
back, there is a problem with your identity. However, you can still try to
call a number.
Depending on the coutry style, your key presses are echoed with
the DTMF touch tones (ISDN countries do not use touch tones, analog
phone contries do this). Depending on you network setup, the phone will
try to dial the number that you have entered so far. As soon as the num-
ber is connected you will hear the ringback tone. If your network is not set
up for overlap dialing, you need to press the enter key to try a number.
By default, the programmable keys of the phone have the func-
tion of lines. When you start dialing a number, the phone will grab a free
line. The programmable key for this line will start to blink slowly.
