H. Recommended System Engineer Requirements
An SE (System Engineer)

3. Computer software (including drivers)
4. Operating systems:

Windows 2000 Professional/Server/Advanced Server
•
Windows XP Professional/Home Edition (32 bit)
•
Windows XP Professional x64 (64 bit)
•
Windows Server 2003 (32 and 64 bit versions)
•
Windows Vista (32 bit)
•
Mac OS versions 10.1.5 and up (for PS/PCL), and versions
10.2.8 – 10.4.2 (for UFR II)
5. Network Operating Systems:
•
Novell NetWare 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x
•
Windows NT/2000/2003
•
Mac OS X
6. Protocols:
•
TCP/IP
•
IPX/SPX
•
NetBIOS
•
AppleTalk
7. Printing
8. Scanning
It is also important that the SE have computer skills and working knowledge in
the following areas:
•
Other computer platforms (mainframe and UNIX)
•
Networking
•
Basic electronics

tasks, such as analysis, design, and programming. System Engineers are also often involved in pre-sales activities.
