● Assigning chords to a previously recorded performance
The Interactive Composition function can be used to assign chords to a musical per-
formance that was previously recorded in Backing Sequence mode.
i) In Backing Sequence mode, record a musical performance into the C-900.
ii) Press the INTERACTIVE COMP. key located at the right on the operating panel,
and then press the START/STOP key.
→ The INTERACTIVE COMP. LED will light.
→ The following display will appear.
iii) If you wish to hear the performance with the assigned chords, press the RESET/
YES key.
→ Playback will begin in accordance to the chords assigned by the Interactive
Composition function.
In the above display, pressing the TAP TEMPO/NO key will stop playback without
any further operation.
iv) You can modify the settings of key, major/minor, IC type, and chord follow.
Use the CURSOR √ √ √ √ and ® ® ® ® keys to select the item you wish to modify, and use the
TEMPO/VALUE UP and DOWN keys to modify the value of each item.
When you have finished making changes, press the START/STOP key.
If you press the RESET/YES key, chords will be re-assigned to the musical perfor-
mance data in accordance with the modified settings.
If you press the TAP TEMPO/NO key in the above display, the modified settings will
remain.
If the key setting is set to AUTO, key detection of the musical data will be performed
as on p.41. In this case, chords will not be re-assigned.
If you wish to use automatic key detection in Backing Sequence mode, record the mel-
ody to be analyzed on the keyboard track. Automatic key detection cannot be exe-
cuted if the melody is recorded on an extra track (the display will indicate Keyboard
Track Empty). If you have already recorded the melody on an extra track, use the
Copy Measure function (Reference Guide p.30) or the Bounce function (Reference
Guide p.31) to transfer the data to the keyboard track before executing automatic key
detection.
There may be times when you would like to try out several different ways of assigning
chords to a given melody, and later compare the results.
By saving the backing sequence each time you modify the settings and change the
chord assignments, you can later switch between backing sequences and compare
them.
In such cases, use the backing sequence Copy function.
By copying the backing sequence with the assigned chords to a different backing
sequence and then repeatedly re-assigning chords, you can create a number of alterna-
tive chord assignments. ☞Reference Guide p.27 "Copy Backing Sequence"
