CUSTOM-MADE EXTERNAL KEYBOARDS
Various operating modes:
Can be selected via switches 1 and 2 in the universal interface box.
These various operating modes are only available as of software status April 2000. (please refer to
the label on the micro-controller in the universal interface).
Operating mode 1:
Both switches at OFF means that the buttons are being evaluated as an external keyboard, (please
refer to the Mini joystick operating instructions).
Operating mode 2:
Switch 1 at ON and switch 2 at OFF means that the buttons are being evaluated for driving but a
safety button must also be pressed at the same time.
Connection procedure:
The safety button is connected to the universal interface ( 4-pole connection marked TR.B.
The keyboard is inserted in the 12-pole connection marked Ki/Fu/Mi
Functional description:
One of the buttons is the ON/OFF button for switching the wheelchair on and off.
Another button is a safety button. You must always be pressed in order to be able to drive the
wheelchair. If the safety button is released, the wheelchair brakes to a stop.
One button is for driving forwards. As long as this button is pressed, the wheelchair will accelerate
forwards. If the button is released, the wheelchair will continue moving forwards at the speed rea-
ched as long as the safety button remains pressed. This button is also used for braking when rever-
sing.
One button is for reversing. As long as this button is pressed, the wheelchair will accelerate in re-
verse. If the button is released, the wheelchair will continue moving backwards at the speed reached
as long as the safety button remains pressed. This button is also used for braking when travelling
forwards.
The last two buttons are for steering.
If one of the buttons is pressed, the wheelchair is steered in the desired direction. Releasing the
button ends the steering process and the wheelchair continues travelling straight ahead.
