  • Page 4 PRECAUTIONS • The PM1401MA is not a personal safety device. It is designed only for the detection of radiation sources and does not function as a personal dosimeter. • Keep the instrument at least 11 cm (4 in.) from radio emitting sources, such as cell phones, to avoid false positives.

    The stored data can also be transferred from the PM1401MA to a personal computer via its IR interface. The instrument can be used in both indoor and outdoor environments and is intended for everyday and/or emergency use by firefighters, military, police, and other first responding communities.

    1.3 Display and control buttons The instrument contains the following control and display components: 1. MODE button is used for turning the instrument ON; switching between operation modes; background update (calibration); changing parameters in Setup Menu. 2. LIGHT button is used for switching on the backlight, enabling IR- communication with PC, changing parameters in Setup mode, turning the instrument OFF.

    1.7.1 Telescopic extension pole Optional telescopic extension pole can be used with PM1401MA to operate the instrument in remote and hard-to-reach areas. It also allows connecting external vibrator to the pole handle and the instrument’s socket to use vibrator. The following figures explain how to fix to and remove the instrument from the telescopic extension pole.

    The vibrator’s cable has a secure push/pull connector to hold into the position. To connect the vibrator, locate the port on the bottom of the PM1401MA, as depicted by item 1 in figure below. Guide the connector until it locks to the position. To disconnect the connector, grasp the outer knurled sleeve (item 2), and pull straight back (item 3).

    2.4 Operation Modes In order to meet the demands of every user, PM1401MA can be customized according to the user’s requirements by means of enabling/disabling various instrument settings and operation modes. The following operation modes and options are available for the regular PM1401MA: •...

    The manufacturer’s preset value of Safety Alarm threshold is 30 µSv/h (3000 µR/h). If necessary the Safety Alarm threshold can be set using PM1401MA User Software using IR adapter.

    CHAPTER 3: SETUP It is possible to adjust several parameters of the instrument using the front panel buttons. The number and combination of settings enabled for editing in your particular device depends on factory pre-sets and may vary in each instrument.   • Page 16 When the LCD displays Aud On (or Off) you can use the Light button to change the setting, i.e. switch on or off the audible alert. Then press the Mode button to do the same for the vibration alert: when the LCD displays Vibr On (or Off) you can use the Light button to change this setting as well.

    Discharging the remaining battery power is especially important if the user is experiencing problems with the instrument. If any visible mechanical damages of the casing and protection glass of the LCD indicator (dents, burrs, cracks) are identified, the operation of PM1401MA is prohibited.

    Polimaster is responsible, Purchaser shall inform Polimaster of the nature of such defect or nonconformity in reasonable detail and shall request authorization from Polimaster to return the Affected Products to Polimaster for repair or replacement. All Products so returned shall be shipped prepaid or otherwise delivered to Polimaster's facility or authorized service center.
