Carriage Motor Drive Data Service Check

Symptom Explanation
You have an error code
indicating a carriage drive
data error.
Be sure the printer is not installed in an unusually hot or cold envi-
ronment. See the Lexmark Color Jetprinter 4079 Plus User's Refer-
ence for installation standards.

Action
Proper belt tension is required for good escapement.
Check the condition of the belt and idler assembly.
Replace any damaged or worn parts.
The carriage motor and linear encoder/paper width
sensor assembly work together to move the carriage
and maintain proper escapement. Check the car-
riage motor cable for continuity and then replace the
following FRUs in the order shown to see if the error
code is recovered and the machine completes

The carriage motor transfers signals to the carriage
board on the logic board. If an incorrect signal is
received and error code is displayed. Check the con-
tinuity of the carriage ribbon cables. If the cables are
all right, replace the carriage board. If the error
doesn't go away, replace the logic board. If you
