Troubleshooting

Problem
Probable Cause
Wiring is wrong.
Temperature element is open or shorted.
Sensor is not in process stream.
Off-Scale Reading
Variopol cable is not properly seated.
Sensor has failed.
Sensor is improperly installed in process
Noisy reading
stream.
Variopol cable is not properly seated.
Bubbles trapped in sensor.
Wrong temperature correction algorithm.
Reading seem wrong
(lower or higer than
expected)
Wrong cell constant.
Electrodes are fouled.
Sluggish response
Sensor is installed in dead area in piping.
Troubleshooting
Solution
Verify wiring.
Check temperature element for open or short circuits.
See
Figure 4-1
Be sure sensor is completely submerged in process
stream.
Loosen connector and reseat.
Perform isolation checks. See
Be sure sensor is completely submerged in process
stream.
Loosen connector and reseat.
Be sure sensor is properly oriented in pipe or flow cell.
See
Figure
2-1. Apply back pressure to flow cell.
Check that temperature correction is appropriate for
the sample. See transmitter manual for more
information.
Verify that the correct cell constant has been entered
in the transmitter and that the cell constant is appro-
priate for the conductivity of the sample.
See transmitter manual for more information.
Clean electrodes.
Move sensor to a location more representative of the
process liquid.
