Cleaning and care

Generally speaking the rotary ironer re-
quires little maintenance.
Cleaning the heater plate
Switch off the machine before cleaning.
Deposits such as from hard water, starch
or spray starch can be removed from the
heater plate using proprietary cleaners.
Some spray starches however are very
difficult to remove. DO NOT use sanding
paper. NB. Many spray starches clog the
heater plate. Only use if specified as suit-
able for rotary ironers by the manufac-
turer. Always clean the heater plate imme-
diately to avoid residues baking on.
To maintain the smooth surface of the
heater plate it should be waxed on a regu-
lar basis with an ironer waxing cloth.
Replacing the ironing cover
Before removing the ironing cover (for re-
placement or cleaning) the machine must
be switched off at the mains isolator, and
the heater plate allowed to cool.
The laundry feed board should be
removed and the heater plate raised off
the roller using the heater plate release
mechanism.
When removing and replacing the roller
cover steel wool bits will drop onto the
ironing table and may get into the cut-outs
for the heater plate supports. These
should be covered over. Particles of steel
wool should be removed from the laundry
table immediately.
The ironing cloth should not need washing
with slight yellowing, which is normal.
Wash a heavily soiled cloth (needle felt
texture) in a 95 o C programme with pre-
wash, and spin.
The ironing cover should be wound back
on to a moving, heated roller (
while still damp, with the heater plate
brought into the ironing position.
If the roller padding of steel wool is repla-
ced or renewed this should only be car-
ried out by a trained Service Engineer.
When the roller has been fitted with a new
or replacement cover or padding the total
circumference must not exceed 664 mm
or be less than 656 mm.
By keeping within these measurements
the new padding/cloth will cover the whole
length of the roller evenly.
Discoloration of the ironer cloth
Some discoloration of the ironer cloth
from light to dark brown is normal.
To avoid the cloth turning black:
- always use the complete width of the
roller.
- space out smaller items and do not
always place them in the same place.
- in pauses between ironing, withdraw
the heater plate or trough and reduce
the temperature.
