Overview

The CCU-700A/700AP Camera Control Unit
processes the signals of the BVP-700/750/500/550-
series CCD Color Video Camera used in a studio
or for outdoor broadcasting. In a BVP-700/750/
500/550-series camera system, separate
components are used for signal processing and
camera control. Signal control is performed with
an optional MSU-700 Master Setup Unit or an
RCP-700-series Remote Control Panel. The newly
developed CNU-700 Camera Command Network
Unit makes it possible to control up to 96 video
cameras in a system.
The CCU-700A/700AP has the following features.
Variety of video input and output signals
The CCU-700A/700AP has three independent
VBS output connectors. It can also supply
wideband R, G, and B signals for the chroma
keyer; Y, R–Y, and B–Y signals; and two signals
each for a waveform monitor and a picture
monitor. The CCU-700A/700AP also has the
capability of receiving four return video signals
and a video signal for a teleprompter, and of
mixing the return video and camera signals.
In addition, the CCU-700A/700AP can accept and
supply serial digital video signals when optional
BKP-7311 SDI output board and BKP-7312 SDI
input board are installed. Three serial digital
video signals are independently output, and two
serial digital return video signals are input, which
allows the CCU-700A/700AP to accept four return
video signals, two digital video signals and two
analog video signals.
External sync capability
The CCU-700A/700AP can be synchronized with
an external reference signal such as a black-burst
signal.
Built-in color-bar generator
The CCU-700A/700AP has a built-in color-bar
generator, which supplies SMPTE or full-EIA
color bar signals selected with the internal switch.
It also has the capability of controlling the gate of a
color-bar chroma signal and of mixing a reference
signal, or a character signal with a color-bar signal.
2
Power supply unit designed for safe
operation
The CCU-700A/700AP is designed for safe
operation. It initially supplies 30 volts of low-
voltage DC to confirm camera connections, and
then supplies 240 volts of AC when a camera and
the CCU-700A/700AP are connected with a triax
cable. The CCU-700A/700AP also has alarm
indicators which warn of a short-circuit or camera
disconnection.
Various audio capabilities
The CCU-700A/700AP has two-channel
microphone output and program audio input
connectors. It can use an independent two-channel
intercom system for compatibility with 2W, 4W,
and RTS systems.
You can also accommodate a CLEARCOM
system. For the CLEARCOM system, consult the
authorized Sony representative.
Remote control of each signal
The level and phase of each signal supplied from
the CCU-700A/700AP is controlled with an
MSU-700.
Character signal output
The CCU-700A/700AP can output the result of
self-diagnostics of the unit as character data. The
character data is output from the CHARACTER
connector or is mixed with the signal output from
the PIX 1 connector.
Camera cable extendable up to 3,000
meters (9,840 feet)
The CCU-700A/700AP and video camera are
connected with a triax cable with a diameter of 8.5

or 14.5 mm (
