Before You Begin

Before You Begin
Before installing the hardware, read the information in "Rack Install Safety Information" on
page 40 and "Cautions and Warnings Related to Working with the Hardware" on page 89.
Wear the provided Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) strap when installing components or servicing a
PA-7000 Series firewall. To use the wrist strap, secure the wrist strap end around your wrist so the
metal contact is touching your skin, remove the alligator clip from the other end, and plug it into
one of the ESD ports located on the front of the chassis.
Use two or more people to perform the rack installation and if available, use a mechanical
equipment lift. To reduce the weight of the chassis, do not install the front slot cards until after you
install the chassis in the rack. You can also remove the front power supplies and fan trays to reduce
the weight.
Have a Phillips-head screwdriver available.
Verify that the intended location has adequate air circulation and meets the temperature
requirements as described in "Environmental Specifications" on page 147.
Allow clear space on both sides of the firewall.
Unpack the equipment and verify that you received all items by comparing the contents with the
packing lists located on the Quick Start document that ships with the product.
Ensure that the proper power source is available to power the PA-7000 Series firewall.
Have a 12mm or 1/2" socket wrench available to secure the ground lug to the ground studs using
the provided star washers and nuts. On the PA-7080 DC platform, you will also need to secure the
DC power lugs to each of the DC studs.

Rack Install Safety Information

Elevated ambient operating temperature—If the PA-7000 Series firewall is installed in a closed
or multi-unit rack assembly, the ambient operating temperature of the rack environment may be
greater than the ambient room temperature. Verify that the ambient temperature of the rack
assembly does not exceed the maximum rated ambient temperature requirements listed in
"Environmental Specifications" on page 147.
Reduced airflow—Ensure that the airflow required for safe operation is not compromised by the
rack installation.
Mechanical loading—Ensure that the rack-mounted firewall does not cause hazardous conditions
due to uneven mechanical loading.
Circuit overloading—Ensure that the circuit that supplies power to the firewall is sufficiently
rated to avoid circuit overloading or excess load on supply wiring. See "Electrical Specifications"
on page 144.
Reliable earthing—Maintain reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment. Pay special attention
to power connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (such as use of power
strips or extension cords) to ensure that the firewall does not exceed power ratings for connected
hardware.
