If you use the function key layout as programmed in the factory, you can use the pre-printed
label provided with your system. If you wish to program the keys yourself using a different
pre-printed label
layout, you should use a neutral label. In either case, remove the cover foil as shown in the
illustration to insert the label. Mark the individually programmed functions or numbers on the
free spaces.

Function keys

The varix S35 comfort telephone is operated in conjunction with the varix 14/200 digital
PABX system. The device is configured according to the requirements of your workplace. The
top left-hand key is permanently programmed as an internal call key (internal) and is used to
occupy the line. The other function keys are freely programmable and may be allocated as
you wish, according to your individual requirements.
Depending on the way the key layout is programmed, pressing a key either activates a
function (e.g. call-back) or toggles the function between on and off (e.g. call diversion).
Certain functions are supported by an LED indicator. When the function is active, the LED
above the key lights up. Pressing the key a second time deactivates the function and the LED
goes off.
Please note that, depending on the facilities installed on your PABX system, some of the
functions described here may not be available on your particular extension.

Acoustic signals

In the case of some functions e.g. call diversion, in addition to the LED lighting up, a long,
high-pitched acoustic signal is given as a positive confirmation that the function has been
activated. Deactivation of a function is confirmed by a long, low-pitched signal. When you
hear a short intermittent signal, your settings have been rejected.
