3. Take the new hard disk drive out of the static-protective package.
4. Slide the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bracket so that the holes in the drive are aligned with
the corresponding holes in the bracket. Then, install the four screws to secure the hard disk drive to
the bracket.
5. Position the hard disk drive bracket into the chassis so that the hole in the bracket is aligned with the
corresponding hole in the chassis. Then, install the screw to secure the hard disk drive bracket to
the chassis.
6. Connect the signal cable and the power cable to the new hard disk drive.
7. Reinstall the optical drive. See "Replacing the optical drive" on page 83.
8. Reinstall the front bezel. See "Replacing the front bezel" on page 82.

Replacing the card reader

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
Note: The card reader is only available on some models.
To replace the card reader, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page .
3. Remove the front bezel. See "Replacing the front bezel" on page 82.
4. Remove the optical drive. See "Replacing the optical drive" on page 83.
5. Remove the storage drive. See "Replacing the storage drive" on page 85.
6. Locate the card reader. See "Computer components" on page 31.
7. Disconnect the card reader cable from the system board. See "Parts on the system board" on page 34.
1. Remove the screw that secures the card reader bracket and then remove the bracket from the chassis.
