8. Position the new memory module over the appropriate memory slot. Ensure that the notch
memory module aligns correctly with the slot key
straight down into the slot until the retaining clips close.
Note: Ensure that you install memory modules following the installing sequence. Memory slot 1, or
memory slot 2 indicates the installing sequence. See "Parts on the system board" on page 34.

9. Reinstall the heat sink and fan assembly. See "Replacing the heat sink and fan assembly" on page 95.

Replacing a PCI Express card

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
To replace a PCI Express card, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 82.
3. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
4. Locate the PCI Express card. The PCI Express card is installed in the PCI Express card slot on the
system board. See "Parts on the system board" on page 34.
