7. Align the two screw holes in the new I/O shield with the corresponding screw holes in the computer.
Then, install the two screws to secure the I/O shield to the computer.

8. Reinstall the I/O bracket. See "Replacing the I/O bracket" on page 89.
9. Reinstall the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.

Replacing the card reader

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
To replace the card reader, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the slide cover. See "Removing the slide cover" on page 85.
3. Remove the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.
4. Remove the I/O bracket. See "Replacing the I/O bracket" on page 89.
5. Remove the I/O shield. See "Replacing the I/O shield" on page 90.
6. Locate the card reader. See "Computer components" on page 31.
7. Make a record of the cable routing and cable connection. Then, disconnect the card reader cable from
card reader connector in the I/O board.
