Fig. 16. Adjusting the seat belt
Back seat passengers should fas-
ten side seat belts similar to front
ones. For middle passenger there is
provided a special design belt – with
two belt tongues. Under normal
operating conditions of the vehicle,
the belt of the middle passenger
must always be in the initial position,
wherein the first tongue is inserted
into the mini-lock (Fig. 15b). Middle
seat belt is fastened similar to the
belts of front or back side passen-
gers.
Pregnant women should always
use femoral and shoulder belts, if
their doctor allows it. Femoral part of
the belt should be as low and con-
venient as possible.

Warning
When driving be sure to fasten
your seat belt and do not carry
unbelted passengers!
Pregnant women should never
put the lower band of the belt to
the abdominal region where the
fetus is, or above the abdomen!
If straps are dirty clean them
with a soft soapy solution. Do not
iron belt bands! The belt must be
replaced with a new one if it was
subjected to critical stress in a
road traffic accident or has
scrapes, ruptures and other dam-
ages.
Pretensioners actuate regard-
less of whether the seat belt is
fastened in the lock or not.
Unauthorized use of preten-
tioners and load limiters of front
seat belts is prohibited. All work
on them should be performed
only at certified SSNEs by spe-
cially trained personnel.
When fastening seat belts be
sure to adhere to the instructions
of this manual (do not place the
diagonal part of the belt behind
your back or the seat back, do not
place the lower part of the belt
under the hips or the seat cush-
ion, etc.).

AIR BAGS

The vehicle is equipped with fron-
tal system of driver's air bag (ABS),
in the design variant of front pas-
senger's air bag, side air bags of the
driver and front passenger, as well as
front seat belts with pretentioner and
load limiter. When actuating the ABS
in a very short period of time front
seat belts are pulled in to secure the
driver and the passenger safety; air
bags are filled up with gas that, being
opened, reduce the risk of injury to
the upper body and head of the driv-
er and the front passenger. The ABS
actuates in frontal crashes of the
vehicle or side crashes when it is
necessary to enhance safety of the
driver and the front passenger.
The ABS is marked with sign AIR-
BAG on the cover of the steering
wheel, sign SRS AIRBAG on the
cover of the instrument panel and
sign AIRBAG on the seat belt band.
Air bag system (ABS), depend-
ing on the version, has the follow-
ing:
– driver's air bag module mounted
in the steering wheel;
– air bag module, located in the
instrument panel above the glove
box;
