Thank you for placing your trust in our company by pur-
chasing the Weller SPI soldering iron series. Production
was based on stringent quality requirements which gua-
rantee the perfect operation of the device.

1. Caution!

Please read these Operating Instructions and the atta-
ched safety information carefully prior to initial operation.
Failure to observe the safety regulations results in a risk
to life and limb.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for damage resulting
from misuse of the machine or unauthorised alterations.
The Weller SPI soldering iron series corresponds to the
EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the
basic safety requirements of Directives 89/336/EEC and
73/23EEC.

2. Description

SPI 15 / 12V; SPI 15 / 24V; SPI 16; SPI-27; SPI-81
Weller SPI soldering iron series is produced for the
discerning leisure-time electronics expert and the elec-
trical engineering industry - exactly the right soldering
equipment for professional soldering work. Robust,
economical, and to be used for versatile soldering work,
these soldering irons are ideal for manufacture and ser-
vice of electronic equipment.
The industrial soldering irons of the SPI series stand out
for their strong heating elements and the wide range of
soldering bits available of the long-life programme class.
They are connected to supply voltage. The various output
groups of 15, 25, 40, and 75 Watt can be used to perform
a large range of soldering tasks. The long-life soldering
bits have been provided with a galvanically applied pro-
tective layer. This protective layer extends the service life
of the soldering bits considerably, and must not be
destroyed by any mechanical actions (filing, scratching,
etcetera). The latest galvanising processes assure the
best possible thermal conduction of the soldering bits. In
addition, they are absolutely scale and corrosion resi-
stant.

3. Initial operation

Fold the soldering iron tray according to the bending
template enclosed. Place the soldering iron in the safety
tray. make sure that no inflammable objects are in the
vicinity of the soldering iron. Verify that the supply volta-
ge is in compliance with the connected load of the solde-
ring iron. Plug the mains plug of the soldering iron into
the mains socket-outlet (in case of extra-low voltage sol-
dering irons use the corresponding extra-low voltage and
the corresponding connection system). After the required
heating-up time has run down, apply some solder to the
soldering tip. Subsequently, soldering work can be per-
formed.
4. Operating instructions
Avoid any seizure of the soldering tips. A thin graphite
layer applied to the bit end of the soldering tip as well as
frequent removal of the soldering tip prevents unpleasant
seizure. The soldering tip can be cleaned by means of a
cleaning sponge saturated with water. Always place sol-
dering tip during breaks.
