MAINTENANCE

PERIODIC CLEANING

It is important that you clean your unit regularly to keep
it in optimum working condition. Follow the procedures
below to clean your unit.
Before cleaning the unit, be sure to turn off
the power switch and disconnect the power
cord from the power source. not doing so may
result in fire or electric shock.
Be sure to print any documents stored in
memory before turning the power off.
Do not use alcohol, benzene, thinner, acetone,
or any other organic solvent to clean the
platen glass, white scanning area, or the
rollers. if any of these solvents should come
into contact with the electrical components
inside the unit, it may cause the unit to emit
smoke and result in fire or electric shock.
NOTE:
When you turn the unit off, any documents stored
in memory will be erased if you leave the unit off
for three hours or more. Be sure to turn the power
back on after cleaning to avoid this happening.
If you disconnect the unit while it is waiting to send
a document, you will have to set the unit to send
your document again once you finish cleaning the
unit.

CLEANING THE UNIT EXTERIOR

Clean the unit's outer casing as follows.
1. Turn the power switch off and disconnect the power
cord from the power source.
2. Wipe the unit's exterior with a clean, soft, lint-free
cloth moistened with a small amount of diluted mild
detergent.

CLEANING THE SCANNING AREA

Periodically check the platen glass, the feeding belt,
and rollers. If they are dirty, the documents you send or
copy will not be printed cleanly.
1. Turn the power switch off and disconnect the power
cord from the power source.
2. Open the platen glass cover. With a soft, dry, lint-
free cloth, clean the white scanning area and the
platen glass.
3. With a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, clean the rollers.
ROLLERS
NOTE:
Do not clean the platen glass, white scanning area,
or rollers with a wet cloth.
Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar
materials for cleaning; they can stick to the
components or generate static charges.
CLEANING THE DOCUMENT SIZE DETECTION
SENSORS
It is not normally necessary to clean the Automatic
Document Feeder (ADF) document size detection
sensors. Clean the sensors only when dust accumulates
on them.
1. Use an air blower or a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to
wipe the sensors.
NOTE: When dust accumulates in the paper size detection
sensors, the unit will be unable to detect the correct paper
size placed in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). This
will result in incorrect paper selection and magnification ratios
in automatic mode.
