3.0 Before installation
3.1 Distance to inflammable material
See fig. 1 A.
3.2 Foundations
Make sure the floor is suitable for the entire installation. See "2.0
Technical data" for specified weight.
Remember: If using a steel chimney that rests on the insert, the
weight of the steel chimney must be taken into account.
NB: It is extremely important to ensure that the product is stable.
It must be installed on a completely inflexible floor.
3.3 Floor covering
The surround has an airtight bottom plate, so no extra floor
covering is required beneath the product.
Flooring that is not attached to the foundation – "floating floors"
– must be removed beneath the installation.
Any floor covering of inflammable material, such as linoleum,
carpets, etc. must be removed from under the stove and floor
plate.
3.4 Floor plate
In front of the stove should be placed a plate made of steel or
some other suitably non-inflammable material.
Contact your local building authorities regarding restrictions and
installation requirements.
3.5 Air supply
There must be a flow of air between the burn chamber and the
surround. This is to ensure that any build-up of heat inside the
surround is not too great. NB: It is extremely important not to
cover air openings. See fig. 1 for distances.
3.6 External air
A flexible supply hose allowing external air to be fed directly into
the product can be installed as follows:
Through a hole cut where marked in the bottom plate.
Through the hole at the back of the surround. See also point
3.1 in the manual "Jøtul F 370 Series".
Suggested installation of the flexible hose for combustion air:
See fig. 10 A, B and C.
3.7 Steel chimney
If a top-mounted steel chimney is used, an uninsulated pipe must
run from the insert to approximately 1 cm over the top grate (over
the hot air barrier for the ceiling-height model). Offset pipe, 50
mm (optional extra), must be used when top-mounting. Then fit
the steel chimney in accordance with the operating instructions.
See fig. 2.

4.0 Installation
The product is heavy! Ensure you have help when positioning
and installing it.
Make sure that the door to the burn chamber is closed during
installation so that the product is not nose-heavy. The product
must be secured so that it does not topple over while you are
installing it.
The product comes with 3 manuals:
Jøtul FS 84 - 370
Jøtul F 370 Series
General use and maintenance manual
It is recommended that you test-mount the surround to adjust
the insert and flue pipe connection.
Use the acrylic sealant provided for all joints.
4.1 Prior to installation
The basic product comes in two packages:
1. Burn chamber.
2. Concrete units with mounting sections.
NB: Check that there is no visible damage to the product when
you unpack it, and make sure that the control handles move
freely.
Preparations
Before installation, it is necessary to decide:
Where the smoke outlet is to be located.
Possible use and location of external air supply.
Refer to manuals for installation of the parts.
1. Once the burn chamber has been unpacked, remove the burn
plates, baffle, exhaust deflector, inner bottom, ash pan and
riddling grate. Remove also the small side burn plates and the
gasket for the flue pipe, which can be found in the ash pan.
2. Remove the top plate with the top grate. These parts are not
to be used.
3. Check that there is no visible damage to the product, and
make sure that the control handles move freely.
4. Spread the cardboard packaging over the floor, and lay the
stove down carefully on its side.
5. Screw in the 4 threaded bars (M8 x 40) (part 4) about 10 mm
and lock in place with counter nuts. Then screw in the long
nuts (M8 x 30) (part 4) until about 6 mm away from the
counter nuts. See fig. 3.
4.2 Chimney and flue pipe
The stove can be connected to a chimney and flue pipe
approved for solid fuel fireplaces with flue gas temperatures
as specified in "2.0 Technical data".
The cross-section of the chimney must be at least that
of the flue pipe. Use "2.0 Technical data" to calculate the
correct chimney cross section. Several solid fuel stoves can be
connected to the same chimney system if the chimney cross
section is adequate. Contact your local building authorities
regarding restrictions and installation requirements.
The chimney must be connected in accordance with the
installation instructions of the chimney supplier.
Before a hole is made in the chimney, the product should be
test-mounted in order to correctly mark the position of the
fireplace and the hole in the chimney.
Make sure that the flue pipe rises all the way up to the chimney.
