SECTION 2 – OPERATION

POWER TAKE-OFF (PTO)

The power take-off (PTO) on your tractor
transfers engine power directly to mounted or
trailed equipment.
All models operate through the standard 1 3/8 in.
(34.9mm) diameter, 6-spline output shaft rotating
at 540rpm, the speed at which most PTO driven
equipment is designed to operate.
Your tractor is equipped with 2-speed PTO so
that the symbol of "540" on the proof-meter
relates to 540rpm PTO speed with lower PTO
speed gear is selected, and "540E" symbol
relates to 540rpm PTO speed with higher PTO
speed gear is selected.

PTO CLUTCH CONTROL LEVER

The PTO clutch control lever (1) in Figure 2-34, is
located by the left-hand fender. Your tractor is
1
equipped with an independent PTO and then use
3
2
always the PTO clutch control lever to engage
the PTO.
To engage the PTO clutch, move the PTO clutch
control lever to the right, fully rearward then to the
left. To disengage the PTO clutch, move the lever
to the left and then fully forward.
To engage the selected PTO(s), place the PTO
speed shift lever (2) In Figure 2-34, into the
desired position or place the MID PTO control
lever (3) in Figure 2-34, into the engaged position,
Figure 2-34
then shift the PTO clutch control lever (1) in
Figure 2-34, into the engaged position.
NOTE: The PTO clutch must be disengaged to
operate the PTO speed shift and MID PTO
control levers. The PTO clutch must also be
disengaged to start the tractor engine.
IMPORTANT: Most PTO equipment is designed
±
to operate most efficiently at 540
10 RPM.
The tachometer has a mark witch indicates the
correct engine RPM for 540 RPM PTO operation.
Operating equipment faster than this decreases
efficiency, and may be dangerous.
IMPORTANT: If the operator leaves the seat
without the transmission range lever in the
"NEUTRAL" position and with the PTO engaged,
the engine will shut off in approximately two
seconds.
