The built-in ventilation system r emoves cooking vapors, odors a nd
smoke fromfoods prepared
on the cooktop, grill and grill accessories, Regular use of this system will insure a more
comfortable andless humidkitchenwhichisfree ofheavy cooking odorsandfumes thatnormally
create a frequent need for cleaningand redecorating.
• The downdraftventilationsystem features a two speed fan.
The fan positionsare: HI, Lo, and OFF. To turn on the
ventilationsystem, touchthe Fan Pad. The fan wiltcome on
at the Hi speed. To set on Lo speed, touchthe Fan Pad
(once from Hi settingor twice from the OFF position).

• A beep will sound every time the Fan Pad is touched.
• ToturntheventitationsystemOFF, touch theFanPad (oncefrom Lospeedor twice from
Hi speed).
• The ventilationsystem wiltoperate automatica/iy on Hi speed when the grillelement is in
use. During grilling,the fan speed is automatically set for the Hi setting AND cannotbe
changed to Lo speed.
• Use the Hi fan speed for capturingsteam. Use Lo fan speed for capturing smoke when
pan frying.
• Thefancanbeusedtoremovestrongodorsfromthekitchenaswhenchoppingonionsnear
the fan.
• Besides usingthe ventilationsystem to remove cookingvaporsand fumes, itcan be used
tocool baked pies or cakes. To coolan item, set it onthe air grilleand turnon the fan. The
air beingpulledover the item willquickly coolit. Be carefulnot to cover the oven vent or
the entire air grille.
Air Grille
The air grille liftsoffeasily. Wipe dean or wash in sink with mildhouseholddetergents, ttmay
be cleaned in the dishwasher. Note: The ovenvent is located underthe air grille, When using
orcleaningthe oven, hotand moist airmay be noticedin thisarea. Becarefulnotto spillanything
intothis vent, Remove the air griUebefore self-cleaning the oven, (See p, 36.)
Filter
Turn offventilationsystem beforeremoving. The filterisa permanent
typeandshouldbecleanedwhensoiled. Clean in sinkwithwarm water
and liquiddishwashingdetergent or in dishwasher. Important: Filter
shouldalways be placedat anangle. As youface the frontofthe range,
the topof the filtershouldrestagainst the left side ofthe vent opening
and the bottom of the filter shouldrest against the right side of the
ventilationchamberat the bottom.DO NOT OPERATE SYSTEM WITHOUT FILTER.
Ventilation Chamber
Thisarea, whichhousesthe filter,st_ould be cleanedin the event of spitls or wheneverit becomes
coatedwitha filmof grease. It may be cleanedwith papertowel,dampcloth,or spongeand mild
household detergent. 9
