Jenn-Air grilland accessories, literally any food you've considered "at itsbest" when
preparedoutdoorscan now be preparedindoorswithless fuss and greatflavor. The following
suggestionsare good rules to follow and will increase your enjoyment of the equipment.
• Be sure to follow directionson page 14 for usingthe gdlL
• Suggested cookingtimes andcontrotsettings are approximate duetovariationsin meats.
Experience will quicklyindicatecookingtimes as well as whichsettings work best.
• Usethe Energy-Savergrillelementforgrilling smallamountsoffoodon halfofthegrillor
for keepingcookedfoods warm orpreparingfoods requiring different controlsettings.Note
SVE47500 Owners: The Energy-Saver grill element can be purchased as an optional
accessory. (See p. 50°)
• Forbest results,buytop grade meat. Meat that is at least 3/_ inch thickwillgrillbetter than
thinner cuts,
• Score fat on edges of steak, but do notcut into meat, to prevent cudingwhile cooking.
• Forthe attractive "branded" look on steaks, be sure grillis preheated. Allow one side of
meat tocook todesireddoneness,or untiljuicesappea r on the topsutrace,before turuing.
Tum steaksand hamburgersjustonce. Manipulatingfood causes loss ofjuices.
• When bastingmeats or applyingsauces tofoods, rememberthat excessive amountswind
up inside yourgrilland do not improve the food flavor. Applysauces duringthe last 15 to
20 minutesof cookingtimeunlessrecipespecifiesotherwise. Sugar-basedsauces, when
used excessively, will carmelize on the grill-rocksand create extra cleaning.
• There are many meat marinades whichwiil helptenderize lessexpensive cutsof meat for
cooking on the grill.
• Certain foods, such as poultry and non-oilyfish, may need some extra fat. Brushwith oil
or melted butteroccasionallywhile grilling.
• Usetongs withlonghandlesorspatulasfor turningmeats. Do notuseforksas these pierce
the meat, allowingjuices to be lost,
• To help retain meat juices, salt after cookingis completed.
• Should grilledfoods be preparedand ready beforeyou're readyto serve, turncontrolto a
Iowsettingandcovermeatwithasinglesheetofaluminumfoll,
Foodwillcontinuetocook.
Be sure the grillis cool and controls are OFF.
Grill Grates
These are made fromcast aluminumandare coated with the Excalibur) nonstickfinish.
• Afterthe grillgrates have cooled,wipe offgrateswith a paper towel. Wash coolgrates (DO
NOT IMMERSEHOTGRILL GRATES INWATER) withsoapordetergent inhotwaterin the
sink orwash them inthe dishwasher.Be sureto removeal! food residuebeforecookingon
the gril!grates again.
• Remove stubbornspotswith a plasticmesh puff or pad. For best results,use only those
cleaning productswhich state they are recommended for use when cleaning nonstick
surfaces.
• tf grates were washed in the dishwasher, season with oilpriorto grilting. (See p. 14.)
• Donotusemetalbrushesorabrasivescouringpadsorotherscrubbersintendedtoc/ean
outdoorcharcoa/gri//s. These will removethe finish as well as scratchthe grates. Do not
clean in self-cleaning oven or use oven cleaners on the grates.
