The SuperScript 4650 color laser printers have two Dual
Inline Memory Module (DIMM) slots. The 4650 model comes
with 32MB RAM, the 4650N comes with 96MB RAM, and the
4650NX comes with 128MB RAM. However, you can
upgrade your printer to a maximum of 256MB of RAM
through the installation of additional DIMMs.
Installing additional memory will help ensure that your
printer has enough memory to print the most complex
graphic print jobs without sacrificing resolution. But
configuring the printer with more than 128 Mbytes of RAM
will not noticeably increase printer performance.
note:
It takes a minimum of 96MB RAM to support 1200
X 1200 dpi resolution.
Use high quality DIMMs with the following properties:
168 pin DIMM
PC100 SDRAM
64 bit wide
configuration
(i.e. 8M x 64)
3.3v
32MB or larger
DIMMs with
parity or ECC
are not
supported
Only DIMMs using 64Mbit SDRAMs, or larger, are
supported
The easy way to tell if you have the 64 Mbit SDRAM chips or
larger is that we only allow 4 or 8 chips on each side of the
SDRAM. A 32MB DIMM can only have four chips on a single
side; 64MB, 128MB and 256MB DIMMs can have 4 or 8 chips
on each side. The most common SDRAM DIMMs will be
found in these configurations.
If you want to upgrade your memory from 32MB to 96MB,
install a 64MB SDRAM in the empty SDRAM slot.
If you want to upgrade your memory from 128MB to 256MB,
(DIMM)
install another 128MB DIMM in the other memory slot. Your
printer now has 256MB of RAM.
The instructions on the next page explain how to install
memory in your printer yourself. You can also contact an
NEC-authorized dealer and have more memory installed for
a service fee. Call 800-632-4650.
When you turn on your printer it will automatically
recognize the added memory. The new memory should show
up on the Start up page shown below. Make sure the printer
driver knows about your added memory. See Chapter 4
about changing device settings in your driver.
