Serial Setup Menu Options

5180 Maintenance Manual

Protocol

This sub-menu is used to select a protocol setting for the serial setup for
both the RS 232 and RS422 serial type. Protocol settings configure the
communication settings of the printer. The five options available are
XON/OFF, CD(DTR), CS(RTS), SCA(SRTS) and ETX/ACK.

XON/OFF

This option is used to configure the XON/XOFF (also known as
DC1/DC3) settings for both RS232 and RS422 serial types.
Options available under this setting are:
Option
Ready/Busy
ON/OFFline
Fault
Robust XOFF
Robust XON
CD (DTR_232) – Pin 20
The CD (DTR) signal is involved in the communications
handshake for the serial port. The DTR (Data Terminal Ready)
signal indicates whether or not the printer is ready to receive
data. When set to HIGH, the DTR signal will be generated when
the printer is ready and the internal serial buffer is not full. When
set to LOW, the DTR signal will be generated when the printer is
not ready, or the internal serial buffer is full.
Option
Ready/Busy
ON/OFFline
Fault
Meaning
XOFF is transmitted to the host by the printer when
the printer is unable to receive more data. XON is
transmitted to the host by the printer when the
printer is ready to receive more data.
XOFF is transmitted by the printer when it goes
offline and XON is transmitted by the printer when it
goes online.
XOFF is transmitted by the printer when a fault is
detected. XON is transmitted by the printer when the
fault has been cleared.
When set to on, XOFF codes (DC3) are sent to the
host every 20 characters after buffer trip point has
been exceeded.
When set to on, XON codes (DC1) are sent to the host
every 3 seconds while Online, Idle, and No Faults.
Meaning
Used to specify whether the DTR signal
should be used to reflect if the printer is
ready (able to receive data) or busy
(currently unable to receive more data).
Used to specify whether the DTR signal
should be used to reflect whether the
printer is online or offline.
Used to specify whether the DTR signal
should be used to reflect when a fault
conditions exists in the printer such as
