2-1. Off-road driving techniques
After crossing a river
● Drive a little and check that the brakes are operating properly.
● After driving through muddy water, remove any foreign objects or
substances such as leaves or mud from the radiator.
● Check that no water has mixed with the oil in the engine, transmis-
sion, transfer, differential, etc.
If water has mixed with the oil, the oil will be cloudy. In this event,
change the oil. Consult your Toyota dealer if necessary.
● Check for changes in the amount and quality of the oil in the
engine, transmission, transfer, differential, etc. and conduct main-
tenance.
● Replace the grease on the propeller shaft within 24 hours after
driving.
● Check that no water has entered the air filter. Replace the air filter
if it is wet.
Consult your Toyota dealer if necessary.
● Wash the exterior and underside of the vehicle with fresh water
after driving through seawater.
After driving in seawater
Wash the vehicle as soon as possible to prevent damage to the vehi-
cle exterior, the underside components and the parking brake.
Refer to the "Owner's Manual".
