Self-Adjusting
Brake
(Rear)
To maintain the correct adjustment, you need
only
drive
your car
in
reverse and
apply the brakes.
If
further adjustment
is needed,
drive
forward
abou
t
20
feet before
you
repeat the reverse
applica-
tion. To
avoid
poor braking, brake
pull,
or damage to brake
drums, the brake
li
nings should
be
inspected
every
30,000
miles
(48
000
km).

Power Disc Brakes (Front)
Disc brakes do not re quire adjus

however
,
several
hard
stops d uring the break-in period are
recommen ded
to
seat
the
linings
and wear
off an
y foreig
n material.
Caution
It
is important that you do not drive the
car
with your foot resting
or
riding on the brake pedal when braking is not required.
This
practice can
result in abnormally high brake temperatures,
ex-
cessive lining
wear
and possible damage to
the
brakes.
Sure-Grip Axle (Optional)
During normal driving
and cornering the Sure-Grip
unit per-
forms
th
e
same
as a
conventional
differential. On
a slippery
surface,
however, the differential delivers more
of
the driving
effort
to the
wheel
having
the
better
traction.
Caution
On cars equipped
with
a Sure-Grip
differential,
never
run
the
engine
with one rear wheel off
the
ground, since
the
car
may be
propelled through the rear wheel
remaining
on the
ground.
Care
should be taken to avoid
sudden
acceleration when both
rear
wheels
are
on a slippery
surface.
This could
cause both
rear
wheels to
spin,
and
allow
the vehicle to
slide sideways
on the
crowned
surface
of
a
road
or
in
a
turn
.
Do
not install
th
e
"Compact",
60
psi temporary
spare
tire
on cars
equipped with
a Sure-Grip
differential. When mounted on the
rear
the smaller diameter
spare can
cause unexpected
seizure of
the differential.
