Operation
Parking
Brake
When the brake is applied
with
the ignition
on,
the BRAKE
lamp
in the instrument cluster
wiU
light.
After parking, set
the parking
brake
firm
ly
and
place the
gear
selector in the PARK position.
When
parking on a
hill,
it is important
to set the parking brake
before placing the gear selector
in
PARK,
otherwise
the load
on
the transmission locking mecha nism may make it difficult to
move
the selector
out of
PARK.
As an added
precaution,
tum the
front wheels toward the curb on a
downhill
grade and
away
from
the
curb on an
uphill
grade.
Warning
Children left unattended in
the
car

the parki ng brake release
or
the gear selecto
r
lever.

The
flasher
switch is
on
the steering column,
just
behind
the
steering
wheel. Pull out
the
flasher
switch
and all
front
and
rear
directional
s ignals
will flash
intermittently.
This is
an emergency
warning
system
and is not
intended for use
when
the
car
is in
motion.
On vehicles equipped with an optional
Tilt
Steering
Whee
l,
press
14
in the
flasher switch
to
activate
the
system.
If
it is
necessary to leave the
car
to
go
for
service,
this flasher
system will continue
to operate
even
with
the
ignition
key re-
moved.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Automatic Transmission Lock-Up Torque Converter
A
feature
designed to improve fuel
economy
has been included in
the automatic
transmission
of
most
passenger
cars built by
Chrysler Corporation.
It's called a
"
Lock-up Torque
Converter"
.
A clutch
within the
torque converter engages automatically
at
approximately 25
mph
(40
km/h)
at
light
throttle,
(it engages at
higher
speeds
under
heavier acceleration),
and may
result
in
a
slightly
different
feeling of response during normal operation in
h igh
gear.
When
the
car
speed drops below approxi mately
25
m ph
, or
d
u
ring accelera
tion
when
the
transmission
down-shi
fts
to
seco
nd
gear, the clutch automatically
dise
ngages.
Column Mounted Selector
The
selector
lever is mounted
on
the right
side of
the
steeri ng
column.
To
drive,
move the
selector
lever from
PARK
or
NEU-
TRAL to the desired drive position. Pull
selector lever toward you
when
shifting
into
REVERSE,
RRST
or PARK, or when shifting
out of PARK.
