4.3 Cooling
system
Caution
: Keep air intake free.
Do
not
attach any posters, badges
or
other
trim in
the region in
front
of
the radiator.
The cooling temperature 1s
con trolled
by
one the
rmostat.
The
gradual rise of the
cooling
tempera-
ture abo
ve the usual level
indicates a
fail-
ure in the
coo
ling
system
.
The cause may be lack
of cooling
wuter,
u
clogged
radiator,
slack V-belts or a
faultv
thermostat.
Check cooling and
heating
system
fo
r
leaks
at regular
interva ls and renew hoses
,
if
required
Radiator
hoses and
heater
hoses
should
be replaced by
new
ones whe
n
they
have
been
in
use for
an
extended period of
time
(approx.
four
years).
Use
on
ly
tested and recommended
hose
material
and hose clamps.
4.3.1 Draining
coolant and filling system
with coolant
Draining
:
1.
Remove
cap of cooling water
expan
sio
n
tank.
2.
Open
heater control
valve.
3. Remove
drain
plugs.
They are located:
- at the
bott om
section
of radiator;
-
on
th
e
right
hand side
of engine
After having
drained the coo
lant, check
whether th
e drain ports are restricted by
residua
l
matter.
Seal drain ports.
Filling with coolant:
If poss ible, replen ish coo lant
only
if
the
coo
lant
temperature
in
the system is
less
than
122°
F
(50°
C).
Replace
cap
of coolant expans ion
tank.
Operate
engine until opera ting
temper
a-
ture
is
reached
(thermostat has opened
).
Shut off
eng ine and replenish coo lant.
