3.1 Diesel fuels
Diesel
fuels should meet the minimum
requirements
of
DIN
51601 or such inter-
natio
nal specificat ions
as
the
America
n
ASTM
D 975 No.
1-D
and No. 2-D as well as
W-F-800 a
DF-A, DF-1,
DF-2
and
the
British
B.S.
2869 A
1,
or even A
2 in cases of emer-
gency
.
All
branded
diesel
fuels commonly sold
in
Central Europe meet these
requirements.
Change
eng
ine
oil as under severe
operat ing
conditi
ons
if
diese
l
fuels are
used
whose
sulphur
content exceeds
0.5
% by
weight.
Marine diesel fuel,
heat-
ing
oil or the like must
not
be used.
When
fuel
is fi
lled
from
barrels,
it
should be
passed
trough
a
filter,
a
piece
of chamo is
leather
or
even
a clean flanne
l
cloth,
insert-
ed
into
the
filler
neck. The
suct ion
port
of
the
pump
must be protected by
a
fine-
meshed
stra iner. Always allow a gap
bet-
ween
the
end
of
the
suction
tube
and the
bottom
of
the
barrel
to prevent
deposits
(dirt
,
sludge, water)
from
being suc ked up.
If diesel fuel has
been
spilt,
the affected
spots
can
be
cleaned
by using
a
mixt ure of
25-50
%
vinegar
and
75-50 %
water
(depending
on
the degree
of contamina-
tion).
This
will
help to
get
rid
of
th
e offen-
sive odor.
