Installing and Removing XFPs

Each 10 Gigabit expansion module supports up to two XFPs. In many cases, XFPs are packaged sepa-
rately and therefore are not factory-installed. For information on installing or removing XFPs, refer to the
steps below.
ESD Caution. Before handling the transceiver, you must discharge all static electricity on your person to
avoid Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage. If using a wrist strap, ensure that the wrist strap touches
your skin. Attach the other end of the strap to the chassis.

To remove, you must first open the XFP's hinged bail latch to approximately
ninety degrees. Then, grasp the hinged face and carefully pull the XFP
straight out of the slot.
When inserting an XFP, be sure that the bail latch is closed. Slide the XFP
straight into the slot until the module clicks firmly into place.
Notes:
Depending on the XFP type, the bail latch design may vary slightly.
To reduce the risk of dust exposure and physical damage, be sure to replace
the protective plug (provided) whenever the XFP transceiver is not in use.
Never force the XFP in or out of the XFP slot; doing so can damage the XFP
transceiver or expansion module.
