Inspecting the Tires

Service Interval: Every 100 hours
Operating accidents, such as hitting curbs, can damage a
tire or rim and also disrupt wheel alignment, so inspect
tire condition after an accident.
Check the tire pressure frequently to ensure proper
inflation. If the tires are not inflated to the correct
pressure, the tires will wear pre maturely.
Figure 58 is an example of tire wear caused by under
inflation.

1. Make sure the tires are facing straight ahead.
2. Measure the center-to-center distance (at axle height)
at the front and rear of the steering tires (Figure 60).
The measurement must be within 0 ± 0.12 inch (0
± 3 mm) at the front of the tire then at the rear of
the tire. Rotate the tire 90 degrees and recheck the
measurement.
Important: Check the measurements at
consistent locations on the tire. The vehicle
should be on a flat surface with the tires facing
straight ahead.
