Intro duction to XRN
Expandable Resilient Networking (XRN), a feature particular to 3Com Switch 4500 series switches, is a
new technology for building the core o
interconnecting several Switch 4500 series switches to provide more ports for network devices and
improve t he reliability of your network.
Adva ntages
XRN features the following advantages:
Streamlined management. After an XRN is established, you can log in to the XRN system by
connecting to any port of any member to manage all XRN members.
High reliability. An XRN system comprises multiple member devices: the master runs, manages
and maintains the XRN, whereas the slaves process services as well as functioning as the backups.
As soon as the master fails, the XRN system elects a new master immediately to prevent service
interruption and implement 1:N bac
