Recording formats

Playback and recording discs
DVD-R DL/+R DL (Double Layer DVD / Dual Layer DVD)
The data are saved on two parallel layers. You have more
-R DL
space available. If the laser changes layers during playback, brief
image and sound distortions may occur. If there is not enough
capacity to record a title on the first layer, the rest is recorded on the
+R DL
second layer. During the playback of a title recorded on two layers, the unit
automatically switches between the layers and plays the title back like a normal title.
You cannot record directly on a DVD-R DL/+R DL with this unit. You can record on the
hard disc and then copy the recording to the DVD disc. After finalization, these discs
can only be played on DVD-R DL/+R DL/+RW compatible players.
Playback discs
A DVD-RW(V) that was recorded on another DVD Recorder is played back in DVD-
VR
( )
RW(VR) format by this unit.
Programmes limited to "one time recording" can also be played back. If you format
the disc, you can record and playback the disc with this unit in DVD-Video format.
DVD-V
High quality video and music discs.
CD
DivX, music and audio recordings, music in MP3 format, pictures in JPEG and
TIFF format.
VCD
Music and video recordings.
SVCD in accordance with IEC62107.
You can playback data in DivX, MP3 and JPEG/TIFF format from a finalized CD-R,
CD-RW or DVD-R. You must finish the session after the recording. Depending on the
recording conditions, there may still be some problems with playback.
Depending on the disc type, the regional code and the recording conditions, in some
cases it may not be possible to playback the stated discs.

Unplayable discs
- 2.6 GB and 5.2 GB DVD-RAM, 12 cm.
- 3.95 GB and 4.7 GB DVD-R for authoring.
- DVD-AUDIO
- DVD-R recorded in DVD Video Recording format (VR).
- DVD-R (V), DVD-R DL, DVD-RW(V), +R, +R DL recorded on another unit
and not finalized.
- Blu-ray, DVD-ROM, +R (8 cm), CD-ROM, CDV, CD-G, Photo-CD, CVD, SACD,
MV-Disc, PD, "Chaoj VCD" that are commercially available, including CVD,
DVCD and SVCD which are not compliant with IEC62107 etc.
Copy protection
Commercially available DVD-VIDEOs are usually provided with copy protection and
cannot be copied.
CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media): copy protection for programmes
limited to "one-time recording". Programmes broadcast with this copy protection
system cannot be recorded on DVD-R or 2.8 GB DVD-RAM. This unit is compatible
with the CPRM copy protection system for writable media.
