The Controllers Menu

The Controllers menu contains parameters that enable you to use the physical controllers on
your MIDI source (wheels, sliders, breath, pedals, buttons, ribbons, or other programmable
switch or continuous controllers) to control any of several functions on the PC2R. The
parameters in the Controllers menu also determine how the PC2R responds to its own control
knobs, as well as what MIDI Controller messages the PC2R sends to MIDI slaves, of you have
any connected.
Each zone of every setup has a set of independently-programmable controller parameters.
Editing a parameter in one zone of a setup affects only that zone; it doesn't affect the other zones
in the setup, nor does it affect any other setup.
The internal setup (which defines numerous characteristics for every program in Internal Voices
mode and KB3 mode) also has a separate set of these same parameters. Editing a parameter in
the internal setup affects all programs, but doesn't affect any setups.
Some of the controllers in the Controllers menu correspond to the knobs on the PC2R's front
panel—for example, the controller called Green Knob A corresponds to the bottom-left knob in
the Performance region, when the Shift LED is green. Moving this knob when the Shift LED is
green adjusts the effects mix in many factory setups. (You can also program controllers on your
MIDI source to make use of these controllers. See the table on page B-11 to learn which MIDI
Controller messages to send to activate these controllers from your MIDI source.)
The other controllers correspond to the various types of physical controllers available on
keyboards and other MIDI sources: mono pressure (aftertouch) and control pedals, for example.
The PC2R responds by default to many standard MIDI Controller messages like Sustain and
Mod Wheel. With a little programming, you can get the PC2R to respond to just about any MIDI
Controller message your MIDI source can generate.
There are three types of controllers listed in the Controllers menu:
Continuous controllers
Switch controllers
Ribbon controller (a specialized continuous controller)
Each type of controller shares a set of common but independently-programmable parameters.
For example, every continuous controller has a parameter called Ctrl Num; it determines which
MIDI message the controller sends—either to the PC2R's sound engine or to external MIDI
instruments. Editing the Ctrl Num parameter for one continuous controller doesn't affect the
value of Ctl Num for any of the other continuous controllers.
To save space, we won't list every parameter for every controller. Instead, we list the common
parameters once for each type of controller.

Front-Panel Controllers and MIDI-Source Controllers

Many of the parameters in the Controllers menu correspond to the four control knobs on the
PC2R's front panel (for example, Red Knob B). The values of these parameters determine what
happens when you move the knobs. For example, in many setups, Red Knob B has a value of
1 Mod Whl, so any program that responds to a MIDI Controller message of 1 (many programs
use this message for vibrato, for example).
A program that responds to MIDI Controller 1 also responds to your MIDI source whenever it
sends MIDI 1. You can program the physical controllers on your MIDI source to send MIDI
Controller messages that simulate moving the knobs on the front panel of the PC2R. On
