Boot Block

Replacing the Top Panel

1. Replace the top panel, aligning the screw holes with the holes in the PC2R's chassis.
2. Install and tighten the screws.

Powering up

When you have finished, plug in the power adapter, and turn the power on. You should see the
usual start up messages. If the

Boot Block
Although the PC2R comes from the factory with an operating system (OS, also called engine
software) and factory setups already installed, you may decide to upgrade the software and/or
hardware at a later time to add more features or sounds. The PC2R boot block lets you install
new software and factory setups into Flash ROM. The boot block also provides hard reset and
diagnostic options.
Execution of any function in the boot block may cause or require a hard reset causing erasure of
the setups that you have created. To save them, back them up using a MIDI Sysex dump as
described on page 4-5.

Starting the Boot Block

When you power up the PC2R, it displays
Please|wait...
and release the Edit button.
After the boot block message banner and version number are displayed, the first of several
menu items appears on the screen. Pressing the cursor buttons scrolls through the menu items.
Pressing the Enter button invokes the menu item in the screen.

About Software Upgrades

You can get software upgrades for your PC2R from Kurzweil's FTP website
(www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/html/downloads.html) or from your Kurzweil dealer. A
computer (Mac or PC) with a MIDI interface and sequencer is necessary for transferring the
software to your PC2R using MIDI Sysex. A list of compatible software sequencers will
accompany your software upgrade kit. If you don't have a computer, your PC2R can be
upgraded by a Kurzweil Service Center.
