Programming the Remote
TheAVR110 is equippedwith a powerful
remote controlthat will control not only the
receiver'sfunctions,but alsomost popular
brandsof audioand video equipment,including
CD players, c assettedecks,TVsets,cable boxes,
VCRs, s atellite receiversandother home-theater
equipment.Oncethe AVR110's remote is pro-
grammedwith the codesfor the productsyou
own, it is possibleto eliminatemostother
remotesand replacethem with the convenience
of a single,universal r emotecontrol.
Programming
the Remote
As shippedflora the factoU, the remoteis fully
programmed for all AVR110functions,aswelt
asthoseof mostHarmanKardonCDchangers,
DVDptayem, C Dplayers andcassette decks.In
addition,byfollowing oneof the methodsbelow,
you may program the remoteto operatea wide
rangeof devices from othermanufacturers.
Direct Code Enti'y
This methodisthe easiestwayto programyour
remote to work with different products.
1. Usethe tablesin the following pagesto
determinethe three-digitcodeor codesthat
match both the producttype (e.g.,VCR,TV)
andthe specificbrandname.If thereis
morethan one numberfor a brand,make
note of the differentchoices.
2.Turnon the unit you wish to programinto
the AVR110 remote.
3. Pressand hold both the Input Selector
for the productyou wish to control
(e.g.,VCR,TV)andthe Mute button t_
at the sametimeWhen the Program
Indicator 1_1 turns amberand begins
flashing,releasethe buttons.It is important
that you beginthe next step within 20
seconds.
4. Pointthe AVR110's remotetowalds the unit
to be programmed, a ndenterthe first three-
digit codenumberusing the Numeric Keys
I_.
if the unit turnsoff, the correct c odehas
beenentered.Ressthe Input Selector 1_
again,andnote that the red light wilt flash
threetimes beforegoing darkto confirmthe
entry.
5. If the deviceto be programmedin doesNOT
turn off, continueto enterthree-digitcode
numbersuntit the equipmentturns off. At
this point, the correctcodehas been
entered.Pressthe Input Selector 11_
againand note that the red light underthe
Input Selector wilt flash threetimes
beforegoing dark to confirmthe entry.
6. fry all of the functions on the remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates
properly.Keepin mind that many manufac-
turersuse a numberof different combina-
tions of codes,soit is a good idea to make
certainthat not only the power control,but
the volume,channeland transportcontrols
work asthey should. If functionsdo not
work properly,you may needto usea differ-
ent remotecode.
7. If a codecannot be entered to turn the
unit off, if the code for your productdoes
not appear in the tab{esin this manual,or
if not all functions operate properly,try
programming the remotewith the Auto
SearchMethod.
Auto Search Method
If the unit youwish to includein the AVR110's
remoteis not listedin the codetablesin this
manualor if the codedoesnot seemto operate
properly,you maywish to programthe correct
codeusingthe Auto Search methodthat follows:
1.Turnon the unit that you wish to includein
the AVR110 remote.
2. Pressthe Input Selector _
for the type
of productto be entered(e.g.,VCR,TV)and
the Mute button t_
at the sametime.
Holdboth buttonsuntil the redlight under
the Input Selector t1_ stayslit. Note that
the next step musttake placewhilethe red
light is on, and it mustbeginwithin 20 sec-
ondsafter the light appears.
S.Pointthe AVR110 remotetowardsthe
unit to be programmed, a nd presseither •
or • button I_I_I.
Eachpresswill send
out a seriesof codesfrom the remote's
built-in databaseWhenthe unit beingpro-
grammed turns off, release the • or • but-
ton II_I_I,
asthat is yourindicationthat
the correctcodeis in use.
4. Pressthe Input Selector 1_, and note
that the red light underthe Input Selector
will flash threetimes beforegoing darkto
confirmthe entry.
5.fry all of the functions on the remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates.
Keepin mindthat manymanufacturers use
a number of different combinationsof
codes, a nd it is a good idea to makecertain
that not onlythe powercontrol works, but
also that the volume,channeland transport
controls,asappropriate.If all functionsdo
not work properly,you may needto Auto-
Searchfor a differentcode,or entera code
via the DirectCode Entrymethod.
Code Readout
Whenthe codehas beenenteredusingthe Auto
Sealchmethod,it is alwaysa good idea to find
out the exactcodeso that it maybe easilyreen-
tered if necesse U . Youmay alsoread the codes
to verify whichdevicehas beenprogrammed to
a specificControlSelectorbutton.
1. Pressand hold both the Input Selector
t1_ for the deviceyou wish to find the
codefor and the Mute button I_
at the
sametime. Note that the Program
Indicator !_t wilt initally turn amber.
Releasethe buttonsand beginthe next
step within 20 seconds.
2. Ressthe Set buttonI_. TheProgram
Indicator 1_1 will then blinkgreenin a
seque_ce thatcolresponds to the three-digit
code, w ith a one-second pause betweeneach
digit. Countthe numberof blinksbetween
eachpauseto determine the digit of the
code.Oneblink isthe number1, two blinksis
the number2, andso forth.Tenblinksare
usedto indicatea "0."
Example: O ne blink,followed by a one-second
pause, f ollowed by six blinks,followedby a
one-second pause,followedby ten blinksindi-
catesthat the codehas beenset to 160.
