System Configuration
System Setup
Once the speakershavebeen placedin the
room and connected,the remainingsteps in
the setup process areto programthe AVR11O's
bass management s ystemfor the type of
speakersusedin your system, c alibratethe
output levels,and set the delay times usedby
the surround-soundprocessoc
TheAVR110 featuresan advancedmemory
systemthat enablesyou to establishdifferent
configurationsfor the speakerconfiguration,
surroundmode,delaytimes,and output levels
for eachinput source. T hisflexibilityenables
you to custom-tailorthe way in which you lis-
ten to eachsourceand havethe AVR110
memorizethose settings.Thismeans,for exam-
ple, that you mayuse different output levelsor
tzimsfor different sources, o r set different
speakerconfigurationswith the resultant
changesto the bassmanagementsystem. O nce
thesesettingsare made,they wilt automatically
be recalledwheneveryou selectthat input.
Thefactory default settingsfor the AVR110
haveall inputsconfiguredfor an analogsource,
stereoasthe surroundmode,the front left and
right speakers set to "large,"and a subwoofer
connected.Beforeusingthe unit, you wilt prob-
ably want to changethe settingsfor most
inputs sothat they are properlyconfiguredto
reflect the useof digital or analog inputs,the
type of speakersinstalledandthe surround
mode specifics. R emember t hat sincethe
AVR110 memorizes the settingsfor eachinput
individually,you will needto maketheseadjust-
mentsfor eachinput used.However, o ncethey
are made,further adjustmentis onlyrequired
when systemcomponentsarechanged.
Onceyou havecompletedthe settingsfor the
first input, manysettingsmay be duplicatedfor
the remaininginputs.Remember t hat oncethe
settingsare madefor oneinput, they mustbe
made for all other input sourcesin your system.
Youare now readyto power up the AVR110 to
begin thesefinal adjustments.
1. Plugthe Power Cord _) into an
unswitched AC outlet.
2. Press the Main Power Switch []
in so
that it latchesin and is flush with the front
panel.Note that the Power Indicator []
will turn amber,indicatingthat the unit is
inthe Standbymode.
3. installthe threesuppliedAAA batteriesin
the remote asshown.Becertain to follow
the (+) and (-) polarity indicatorsthat are
on the bottom of the batteU compartment.
4. Turnthe AVR110 on either by pressingthe
System Power Control [] on the front
panel,or via the remoteby pressingan Input
Selector _t1_O
on the remote.The
Power Indicator []
will turn greento con-
firm that the unit is on, and the Information
Display []
andother indicators[][]
also
light up.
Speaker Configuration
Theseadjustmentstell the AVR110 which type
of speakersare in use.This is important as it
adjuststhe settingsthat determinewhich
speakersreceivelow-frequency(bass)informa-
tion. Foreachof thesesettings usethe
L AR GE setting if the speakersfor a
particular position aretraditional full-range
loudspeakers that arecapableof reproducing
soundsbelow 100Hz.Usethe SMALL set-
ting for smaltehfrequency-limitedsatellite
speakersthat do not reproducesoundsbelow
100Hz.Note that when "small" speakers are
used,a subwooferis requiredto reproduce
low-frequencysounds.Remember t hat the
"large" and "small" descriptionsdo not refer
to the actual physicalsizeof the speakers, b ut
their ability to reproducelow-frequency
sounds.If you are in doubt asto which cat-
egou describesyour speakers, c onsultthe
specificationsin the speakers' o wner'smanual,
or ask your dealec
With the AVR110 turned on, follow thesesteps
to configurethe speakers:
1. Put the AVR110 in the DotbyProLogic
modeby pressingthe Surround Mode
Selector [] on the front panelor by
pressingthe Surround Mode Selector
on the remote,untit PRO LOGIC
appears in the Main Information Display
[] and the PROLOGICindicator[] lights.
2. Press the Speaker button I_D R,_ on the
remoteor front panel.Thewords FNT
SPEAKER
wilt appearin the Main
Information Display [].
3. Press the Set button _R,n.
4. Press the A/T buttons_)_
on the
remoteor the Selector buttonsI_ on the
front paneluntil either LARGE
or
SMALL appears,matchingthe type of
speakers you haveat the left-front and
right4ront positions, a s describedbythe
definitionsshown in precedingsection.
When SMALL
is selected, l ow-frequency
sounds wilt be sentto the subwooferoutput
only.Notethat if you choosethis option,
andthereis no subwoder connected, y ou
wilt not hearany low-frequency sounds from
the front channels.
WhenLARGE
is selected, a fult4angeout-
put will be sentto the front-leftandfront-
rightoutputs,andNO Iow-fiequency signals
wilt be sentto the subwoder output.
5. Whenyou havecompleted your selection for
the fiont channel,pressthe Set button
41_R_I1, andthen pressthe ,ill,/T buttons
_D_
on the remoteor the Selector
buttons[]
on the flont panelto change
the displayto CEN
SPEAKER.
6. Press the Set button 41_RJI1 a gain, and
usethe A/T buttons!_)_I
on the
remote,or the Selector buttons[] on the
front panel,to selectthe option that best
describes y our systembasedon the speaker
definitionsshown in precedingsection.
When CEN SMALL
is selected, I ow-fie-
quencycenter-channel soundswilt be sent
to the subwooferoutputonly.Notethat if
you choose this option andthereis no sub-
woofer connected, you wilt not hear any
low-frequency soundsfrom the center-chan-
nel speakec
When CEN LARGE
is selected, a full-
rangeoutput will be sent to the center-
speakeroutput, and NOcenterchannelsig-
nal wilt be sent to the subwooferoutput.
When CEN NONE is selected,no signals
will be sent to the center-channel o utput.
Thereceiverwill operate in a "phantom"
center-channel m odeand center-channel
informationwill be sent to the left- and
righbfront channeloutputs.
