Installing the OpenView Professional Suite and
SMS Integration
Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft have teamed up to integrate HP
OpenView Professional Suite and Microsoft Systems Management
Server (SMS) products. In just a few steps, users of both of these
applications can view the SMS Personal Computer Properties dialog
box, for selected computers, and run SMS directly from OpenView.
Once the integration has been performed, an OpenView icon is
displayed in the SMS Personal Computer Properties for a selected
computer.
The software bridge only works under the following conditions:
OpenView Professional Suite is installed on the machine running

SMS (the console).
The selected machine has either an IP or IPX address.
•
SMS is installed on either an NT server or an NT workstation.
•
You must start OpenView Professional Suite before the machine
•
properties and the icon appear.

Files Used for the Integration

OVSMS.EXE - provides the hooks into the SMS database structure.
OVHERM.DLL - sends messages to OpenView to bring up the
OpenView map in a separate window.
HPDB.EXE - registers OVHERM.DLL with SMS

Installation

1 Install HP OpenView Professional Suite and Microsoft Systems
Management Server separately. Remember, you must install SMS on
either an NT server or an NT workstation.
